2013 Dunlop Motorsport Ireland Young Racing Driver of the Year Kevin O’Hara returned to Kirkistown hoping to earn some strong championship points and add another win to his CV as the Formula Ford highlight events fast approach.
Qualifying was typical of Formula Ford this season with mere tenths of a second separating the field. By the end of the session, Kevin placed his Irish Sports Council supported Van Dieman third on the grid for race one, just three tenths of a second off pole man Noel Dunne.
Battling hard with David McCullough and Jonny McMullan in the early stages of race one. Quickly O’Hara was back up in the podium places, setting the fastest lap of the race on his way to the front. However contact from Ivor McCullough left O’Hara stranded with damage to his car. This damage would also rule him out of race two later in the afternoon.
Having returned from Kirkistown on Saturday night, Kevin is now on the way to Donegal where he starts one of his biggest challenges to date, a solo charity cycle from Malin to Mizen in aid of Pieta House. Starting tomorrow morning, Tuesday 3rd September, the 575km cycle will run over 3 days.
Before setting off, Kevin said, “Kirkistown was very disappointing this weekend. We were easily the fastest car on the track and being hit from behind by someone else is frustrating. However my pace was very strong so confidence for the end of year events is very high especially for Mondello Park in two weeks! Now I am focusing my attentions on my next challenge, cycling from Malin to Mizen for Pieta House. I’m really looking forward to the challenge and if anyone would like to donate it would be very much appreciated. No matter how much, every little helps.
